ENTERING THROUGH HAZARDS

AND RISKS

The main types of disaster (landslides, floods, fires, pollution, storms, etc.) are clearly the main entry point for this atlas.
It should be noted, however, that these different hazards can combine to create potentially even more devastating risk situations (rain plus mudslide, drought plus land subsidence, flooding plus industrial accident, etc.).

However, each hazard has its own physical logic, its own dynamics of emergence, amplification and acceleration.
The powers of impact are of different kinds, and must be understood, appreciated and assessed for their specific impact on human settlements and their ecosystems.
Depending on whether solids, liquids or gases are in motion, whether the masses involved are hot or cold, moving slowly or quickly, regularly or irregularly, different physical universes and impacts need to be observed, understood, welcomed or kept at a distance in order to make a joint project.
