"Building urbanity facing the Seismic Risk in Tehran"

The geology of the Tehran region is conducive to earthquakes, most of which are of low intensity. If the city were to be hit by a major earthquake, the consequences would be dramatic. The risk of earthquake-related collapse depends above all on the quality of construction. Risks are higher in neighborhoods where buildings are older, made of mud bricks or poor cement. The project site is located in the south of Tehran, in the 17th district, where the consequences of an earthquake would be severe due to the very dense and run-down neighborhoods. Narrow roads increase the vulnerability of urban fabrics to seismic risk. The project takes a two-step approach to the catastrophe: what happens during – and where does it go from there?
