"Drought in Ouarzazate: a new oasis in the city"

In the Draa valley, high up in the Atlas mountains, the town of Ouarzazate is developing between traditional artisanal neighborhoods and new industrial districts. Given its low rainfall and the geological structure of its soils, the city suffers from numerous droughts. The project develops a new urban form, set into the town’s natural slope and close to a watercourse to generate runoff. The project creates a cratered area for shelter and protection from the sun. Housing, hostels, cultural spaces, markets and facilities provide an opportunity to explore an architecture of burial.
