"Build the plain in a zone of ice break-up"

Iceland is an island born from the meeting between a hot spot and the mid-Atlantic ridge, two terrestrial phenomena which participate in the movements of the earth’s soil. This encounter makes it a territory where the volcanic risk is omnipresent. This eruptive risk comes in different forms, manifestations and consequences on urbanity. Ice breakouts act like a tsunami over a long period of time. It is a very wide and very long, fast and devastating wave that spreads over the plain of Suðurland. In contrast, the Heimaey lava flows extend over several days and freeze matter on the territory. The project is part of a site that reveals the risk and values it. The architecture put in place develops around a certain porosity in the face of this debacle, while questioning the principle of the limit and the unlimited.
