Following long periods of drought in the 1970s, the river was channeled and dammed. These regulation installations are today critical for the life of the river and its inhabitants: human and non-human. Saint-Louis has become, over time, a veritable archipelago of urbanized islands, sparingly linked by two slightly elevated infrastructures: a road and a canal.
